PLANNING YOUR ADVENTURE

Useful Information

06_best_time_to_travel.png

Best Time to Travel:
May to October offers generally dry conditions and excellent wildlife viewing in Etosha, although desert nights can be cold. For a particularly special journey, consider August to September, when Namaqualand's famous wildflowers may be in bloom, depending on seasonal rainfall. Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate, with cooler, wetter winters and warm, dry summers.

07_accommodation.png

Accommodation:
Choose from wilderness campsites, national park accommodation, guesthouses and comfortable lodges. Enjoy remote desert camping in Namibia, coastal accommodation in Swakopmund and a relaxing finish in Cape Town. Book popular destinations well in advance during peak travel and wildflower seasons.

08_border_crossings.png

Border Crossing:
This route travels from Zimbabwe through Botswana into Namibia and onwards to South Africa. Allow time for border formalities and ensure passports, vehicle authorisation documents, insurance and any required permits are in order. Confirm cross-border rental arrangements before departure.

Vehicle & Equipment:
A fully equipped 4x4 is ideal for Namibia's long gravel roads and remote camping areas. Carry sufficient drinking water, recovery equipment, a tyre compressor and suitable spare tyres. Plan fuel stops carefully and check road conditions before travelling into isolated regions.

Good to Know:
Namibia involves long distances, gravel roads and limited services between towns, so allow generous driving times and avoid travelling after dark. Carry offline maps and leave flexibility in your itinerary. Namaqualand's wildflower displays vary with rainfall and temperature, so timing is important if the flowers are a priority.
